EU has Drafted Regulation to Restrict the BPA in Thermal Paper in REACH Annex XVII

On 21 April 2016, World Trade Organization has circulated the notification related to their member – European Union (EU). It has drafted a regulation relates to a new entry in Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. It would restrict the placing on the market of thermal paper containing Bisphenol A (BPA) with limited concentration.

The proposed regulation aims to reduce the risk of BPA exposure to workers (cashiers) and consumers from thermal paper receipts as used in the market. No significant burden on industry, supply chain or consumers is expected as Bisphenol A has already been largely substituted by other substances.
